NetZeroAg presented “Carbon Markets - an opportunity for the rice industry?” at the 2023 Federation of European Rice Millers (FERM) Convention in Italy.

Margaret Kim, CEO of Gold Standard and Lord Aamer Sarfraz, founder of NetZeroAg opened the session “Small Producers, Big Impact” at the 2023 Gold Standard Conference “Grow to Zero” held in London.

NetZeroAg, a founding member of the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP), is excited to launch a programme to enable smallholder rice farmers to access the voluntary carbon markets - at scale. Until now, smallholder rice farmers have been largely unable to benefit from the expansion of voluntary markets due to challenges in verification and the complexity of the process.

The most productive rice farming currently requires the flooding of paddy fields, consuming vast quantities of water. It also creates a low oxygen environment, leading to soil microbes producing methane that escapes from the water into the atmosphere.
